Meet Joe Scianablo
Joe Scianablo is a Marine combat veteran, former NYPD officer, and prosecutor who has dedicated his life to service, leadership, and protecting the most vulnerable. His journey, from the battlefields of Iraq to the streets of New York and now to the fight for a better Town of Hempstead, has been shaped by an unshakable commitment to duty and justice.
Joe's Priorities
Joe is committed to restoring trust in local government by focusing on what matters most,
lowering taxes, fixing our infrastructure, keeping our communities safe, and standing by those who’ve served. His priorities reflect real issues facing real people in the Town of Hempstead.
Tax Reduction
End wasteful spending on inflated salaries and perks for career politicians, and redirect resources to where they’re needed most, serving the people of the Town of Hempstead. The recent 12% property tax hike, implemented while officials gave themselves raises, placed an unfair strain on taxpayers. Joe is committed to restoring fiscal responsibility and putting families first.
Infrastructure
The Town's crumbling infrastructure, especially in historically underserved neighborhoods, remains a serious concern. As Supervisor, Joe will ensure that these neglected areas are prioritized, receiving the resources and attention they deserve to thrive. Joe also believes in a partnership with labor because they are the backbone of our communities.
Public Safety
Every community deserves safety and trust. As Town Supervisor, Joe will work to strengthen public safety and rebuild confidence between law enforcement and the communities they serve. As a retired NYPD officer, he understands that safety must be a right, not a privilege, for every resident.
Veterans
Joe is committed to supporting our veterans by ensuring they receive the services, respect, and recognition they’ve earned. That begins with access to quality employment, healthcare, and housing. Honoring their sacrifice means standing by them with unwavering dedication and delivering the support they deserve.
Life of Service
Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1996, alongside his twin brother, following a family tradition of military service. He was determined to use the G.I. Bill to become one of the first Scianablos to graduate from college. Joe’s Marine Corps career took him around the world, where he participated in humanitarian missions in East Timor and Eritrea and developed the mental toughness and leadership skills that would define his future.
But it was the aftermath of 9/11 that made Joe more committed than ever to continue his service. In 2003, he deployed to Iraq as a Sergeant, leading Marines through the chaos and devastation of combat. His experiences—saving a fellow Marine from suicide, comforting an Iraqi mother who had lost her child, and attending the funerals of fallen brothers—left him with a profound understanding of both the cost of war and the urgent need for leadership rooted in compassion and integrity.
